WESTERN SAHARA THE LAST AFRICAN COLONY
In 1975 Spain decided to abandon its colony in Western Sahara dividing it between Morocco and Mauritania, despite the fact that the International Court in The Hague clearly recognized the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination .Less than a month later Morocco invaded the territory and the air force carried out bombings on defenseless civilians, with napalm and white phosphorus, forcing a large part of the inhabitants of Western Sahara to take refuge in the Algerian desert, where still today more than 173,000 people remain in camps under precarious conditions in the region of Tindouf.
